Cancer Support Groups Set To Meet In Dutchess, Putnam In February

A nonprofit organization that brings aid and information to people affected by breast or ovarian cancer has scheduled several support groups in Putnam and Dutchess counties this February.

According to Support Connection, Inc., a Yorktown-based nonprofit that provides free, confidential support services to breast and ovarian cancer patients, the first in-person group session of the month is to be held Feb. 14 at the East Fishkill Community Library in Hopewell Junction.

The event at 348 New York Route 376 is scheduled to be a Breast and Ovarian Cancer Support Group and will begin at 10:15 a.m., according to organizers.

The next event of the month – also a Breast and Ovarian Cancer Support Group – is to meet the following day, Feb. 15, at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, according to organizers, who said the event at 670 Stoneleigh Ave. is to begin at 7 p.m.

At 7 p.m. on Feb. 23, the support group is to meet at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, according to organizers.

For those unable to attend the groups in person, teleconferencing is available, according to organizers, who said that monthly telephone support groups are also available toll-free.

According to Support Connection, the Advanced Stage or Metastatic Breast Cancer Telephone Group will be taking place at 8 p.m. on Feb. 6. The Ovarian Cancer Telephone Group is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Feb. 8.
